The internet. It’s a whole new world. It is a place where you can reinvent yourself. It is a place where you can share and gather information. It is a place, where you can be free. The internet. It’s the new frontier.

The image doesn’t show it any better. In the world of the internet, you are nothing but a speck of electrical dust. You are a simple transmission in a web of high speed connections. You are nothing. Of course you are free to comment. You are free to say what you want. But the ripples you make are so insignificant that hardly anyone would notice or even remember you. So it baffles me. Why is it that anytime I read a blog post, a sports article, a news article, that there are all of these people bashing the author and one another?

What’s really disturbing about these people is they find ways to bash others even if it was never even mentioned in the article. For example, I read a sports blog about the Milwaukee Bucks. Somewhere through the comments, we will see people arguing about LeBron James and Kobe Bryant. It just doesn’t fit.

There are times that I read some feel good stories about someone doing a random act of kindness. Or someone who did a good thing and got killed for it. These stories are meant to show that there is good in humanity. But after reading the comments, you will see that there are more people who would rather hate and shit on others rather than be thankful for the good deed the story just published. What baffles me even more is the fact that most, if not all, of the internet bashing and hating comes from Americans.

You rarely see Europeans, Canadians, Asians, or Africans comment stupidly in forums, blogs, and more. It is mostly Americans who do that. Is it because they are democratic? Has the American ideal of “freedom” corrupted them so much that they just have to doubt and hate on even the kindest and most heartwarming story? I’m not saying all Americans are like this, but it is mostly Americans who do this. Maybe it is because of all those white rednecks who lost their jobs due to the recession and now are just sitting lonely in their mom’s basement doing nothing but watching porn on the internet and bashing other people. Whatever the reason is, internet bashing continues to be harsher and harsher through the years. Although they are merely specks on the world of the internet, they are becoming so many that it’s starting to make a huge wave.
